Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the 19th of January 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and was raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, a homewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. When she was 12, she was already appearing on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording on a label of a small size and singing at Grand Ole Opry. After finishing the high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville for the start of her country-singing career. She was in love with Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving business; they married on May 30 June, 1966, and they are still together. In 1967 her singing caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to perform on his program, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained with the show for seven years. Their duets were well-known and she was asked to perform with him at the Grand Ole Opry. Her smash hit "Joshua", which reached number one in 1970, was her biggest hit single. She decided to go solo although she recorded duets with the singer. In 1974, she walked away from for a new solo artist. Dolly was a well-known songwriter/singer. Dolly received numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). The diminutive (5'0") beauty was a perfect fit for television. The mid-1970s saw her becoming a regular on TV. she was appearing regularly on talk shows, and was even having her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her hit song "Here You Go Again." Dolly made her movie debut in the film 9 to 5 in 1980. The film received nominations for an Oscar for the title song and also for Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Further fame was earned through her roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) as in Rhinestone (1984) in which she sang the hit song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her chief. Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 to commemorate her Smoky Mountain heritage. She was a part of the TV show Dolly (1987 television series) as her character. In the episode "Trio" she won the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
